MY WORK

I am the Communications Director for the Center for Humans & Nature, a nonprofit organization, publisher, forum, and place to explore, connect, and nurture our understandings of and responsibilities to the natural world. The Center shares ideas that foster curiosity, build community, and inspire action and provides in-depth and diverse perspectives about what it means to be human in an interconnected world.

I am also the Social Media and Marketing Manager for Out of Eden Walk, a multi-year, 24,000-mile storytelling walk across the planet to enhance cross-cultural understanding through slow journalism and education. Episodic dispatches by the Walk’s founder and primary contributor, Paul Salopek, as well as walking partners, are published on National Geographic Society’s storytelling hub.

Additionally, I’m a social media consultant for Clockshop, a nonprofit organization that connects Angelenos to public land through arts and culture programming. Clockshop works with artists to deepen the connection between communities and public land in order to build a shared vision of a future based in belonging and care.

As a Senior Facilitator with Soliya’s Connect Program, I independently facilitate weekly online dialogues with groups of university students from around the world. We work to enhance skills in conflict resolution, critical-thinking, collaboration, and cross-cultural dialogue. I have also been involved with Soliya as a coach and a Terana Fellow. In 2018, I received Soliya’s inaugural Community Advocacy Award for exceptional facilitation.

As a freelancer, I specialize in communications, outreach and engagement, social media management, dialogue facilitation, training, and producing. I have been involved in projects ranging in focus from storytelling to conservation and youth leadership to cross-cultural relations.

I have traveled to Ghana, Qatar, and Alexandria VA with The Digital Canopy to assist in delivering multi-day digital storytelling workshops for alumni of the US Department of State’s Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) program, providing participants with skills in photography and filmmaking and guiding them in creating short films.

I also worked with CDM Sound StudiosCharles de Montebello to create Portable Story Series, a writing competition in which winning stories were transformed into audio productions, raising money for organizations like InsideOUT Writers and Welcoming America.

For the nonfiction media studio, Kindling Group, I developed and managed What's Your Calling, the engagement campaign for the PBS documentary miniseries, The Calling. I also produced, filmed, and hosted several of the campaign’s interviews. In addition to The Calling, I have conducted outreach and social media administration for documentary films Dalya's Other Country (POV/PBS), The Light in Her Eyes (POV/PBS), and Refuge: Stories of the Selfhelp Home (PBS affiliates).

For Pangaea Exploration, an organization that specializes in remote scientific and sailing expeditions, I managed online communications and crew operations. I also assisted with crew management for the inaugural eXXpedition voyage, part of a series of expeditions focused on toxics in our bodies and in our seas.

Previous to freelancing, I worked full-time at Interfaith Youth Core in Chicago, where I developed and delivered media trainings for young people and adults from around the world, delivered leadership trainings for students at universities across the US, managed media relations, created short films, and coordinated IFYC’s role in developing a multi-partner civic engagement program for the city of Chicago.
